Exciting Modernism

Culture and Gastronomy in Barcelona, 1900′s

This proposal mixes a visit to the Palau Güell, family residence of Eusebi Guell, designed by Antoni Gaudi with a wonderful meal in a magnificent and truly emblematic Modernist restaurant.

Exciting Modernism can be performed in the morning (11 am) or in the afternoon (6.30 pm). The tour begins at the Palau Güell, located very near to the Ramblas and declared World Heritage by UNESCO. The Palau was built between 1885 and 1890 by the famous architect Antoni Gaudi and is an outstanding example of domestic architecture by this genius.

Visitors start by taking a 1 hour tour of the building in groups of up to 25 with an audio guide system.  During the tour they will be accompanied by the group’s  guide at all times.

After the visit an actor, in the guise of a character from the Modernist period, will welcome the group as they leave the Palau Güell and accompany them for a stroll up the Ramblas to the 4 stars. This historic building was inaugurated over 150 years ago under the name of the Fonda España and was renovated in the late nineteenth century by the famous Catalan architect Lluís Domènech i Montaner.

In the private room Sirenas of this magnificent modernist building, our host will reveal some of the  secrets of the hotel and will explain what was happening in Barcelona in 1900′s. His style is both informative and funny taking a different slant at the history of the period. Why did Gaudi’s brother always wear in his shoes for him, or what was his relationship with Rose, his niece? Discover the secrets of the time and have some fun on the way.

Our character will offer his guests a menu designed especially for the occasion by the renowned chef Martin Berasategui, holder of three Michelin stars. The meal is inspired in Catalan cuisine of the Modernist period.

We invite you to enjoy an authentic Modernist experience in Barcelona!
